The FAA delegates the authority to certify ultralight pilots to two ultralight groups.

ASC (Aero Sport Association) uses the two following levels.

BFI stands for Basic Flight Instructor and

AFI stands for Advanced Flight Instructor

EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association ) uses the following two levels.

UFI   stands for Ultra Flight Instructor

UFIE  stands for Ultra Flight Instructor Examiner

Below is several ratings within the above levels.:

PFW stands for Powered Fixed Wing

PPW stands for Powered Para Wing and

PWS stands for Powered weight shift or Trikes.
